Purpose of the Collection
The Victoria Cross Library and Archive aims to commemorate the achievements and sacrifice of returned service personnel both here and abroad in the theatre of conflict, peacekeeping operations and services to the Country.
The purpose of the collection is to:
- Protect archival material generated in the administration of the WA State Branch of the RSL and sub-branches throughout WA both current and dissolved.
- Accept and preserve donations both to the WA State Branch of the RSL and sub-branches which relate to theatres of war and peacekeeping operations recognised in the RSL Constitution.
- Provide a research centre for literary and journalistic undertakings that may be conducive to the objects of the League as stipulated in the Constitution.
- Provide a resource for the community in researching Western Australia's history in times of conflict and in understanding issues affecting returned service personnel.
- Provide a recreational reading environment (Victoria Cross Library) in ANZAC House for members and those eligible for membership to the RSL as outlined in the Mission Statement.
Library Collection
The Library collection includes published works that relate to theatres of conflict and peacekeeping operations recognised by the RSL Constitution. Ephemeral material will include issues relating to veteran affairs, a small percentage of fiction material, current affairs papers and periodical’s.
Archive Collection
The Archive collection of the WA State Branch of the RSL contains archival material that has been generated in the day to day running of the WA State Branch of the RSL. The collection also includes archive material from sub-branches that span the length and breadth of the State and memorabilia that has been donated to the collection such as war diaries, photographs and personal papers.
To access the Archive Collection, researchers are required to complete a researchers ticket application which is available on this page. Researchers will then have access to our collections database with which to source material and archives will be produced upon request.
