Providing services in the aged community

Pensions, Advocacy & Welfare Services (PAWS) are summarised in its name. These services include:

Pensions

  • Establish eligibility under the various forms of legislation
  • Confirm diagnoses of injuries and/or illnesses
  • Examine possibility of injuries and/or illnesses being service-related
  • Assist in the preparation & submission of claims
  • Track the progress of such claims
  • Examine the decision on each claim and advise the veteran on the correctness of it

Advocacy

  • All duties and responsibilities of a Pensions Officer, AND
  • Assessing the potential and options for unsuccessful decisions to be reviewed at the appropriate level of appeal
  • Preparation of submissions on behalf of applicants
  • Represent applicants throughout the review process
  • Review decisions and provide further advice as required

Welfare

  • Visit members of the veteran community in their place of residence as required
  • Visit major hospitals on a regular basis
  • Visit other hospitals as required
  • Assist with the preparation of applications for financial support under the WA Aged Sailors Soldiers and Airmen’s Fund.
  • Facilitate many other forms of welfare support
  • Limited financial assistance available to eligible veterans experiencing hardship
