In recognition of the great sacrifice made by the men and women of our armed forces, all veterans, serving, and returned service personnel wearing service uniforms, campaign ribbons or medals can travel FREE on ANZAC Day. The annual Dawn Service will be conducted in the State War Memorial Precinct. This precinct encompasses the State War Memorial Obelisk, Court of Contemplation, the Eternal Flame of Remembrance and Pool of Reflection.

The conduct of the ANZAC Day Dawn Service comprises:

4:30 a.m.Commencement of the ‘Spirit of ANZAC’ archival footage.
5:40 a.m.Official Wreath Layers assembly opposite the entrance to the State War Memorial Precinct on Fraser Ave.
5:45 a.m.Commencement of the narration of military history in conjunction with actual historical military footage.
5:55 a.m.Catafalque Party mount Flame of Remembrance Memorial.
5:56 a.m.The Governor arrives

Wreath Laying Ceremony

  • The sounding of the 'Still' - 6:00 a.m.
  • Laying of Official Wreaths.
  • 'Last Post' will be sounded.
  • 'Two Minute Silence'.
    (flags will be raised to the top of the mast and then lowered to half mast at the first note of the 'Last Post')
  • 'Reveille' or 'Rouse' will be sounded.
    (flags raised to masthead at ‘Reveille’)
  • The reciting of the 'Ode'
    (this signifies the completion of the protocols of the Dawn Service.)

    At the conclusion of the Dawn Service a member of the ADF is invited to provide the ANZAC Day Dawn Service address to the invited personage.

    Fly over by the RAAF and the Royal Aero Club Tiger Moths.

    Flags lowered to ˝ mast until midday

    The public may lay personal wreaths and tributes and observe the wreaths laid by guests.

    Restricted Access - Seating

    For the comfort and assistance of elderly and invalid veterans, seating will be placed on the upper levels of the Court of Contemplation. Entry to this area is through this main entrance to the State War Memorial precinct.

    Aged / Frail / Disabled Parking

    Limited parking for the aged / frail and disabled will be available in the car park behind Frasers Restaurant. Car passes are required for entry to this car park; they are available from ANZAC House. Please write to:

    Public Holiday Timetable - Please note that the Transperth system will operate on a Sunday/Public Holiday timetable. There are some special services (check the transperth website). Passengers planning to use transperth should check their timetables as some routes have limited morning services on public holidays.
    Passengers should also be aware that advertised frequencies are subject to fluctuations due to loading and traffic conditions.

    Gunfire Breakfast



    In conjuction with Celebrate WA, there will be a Gunfire Breakfast (sausage sizzle) in Stirling Gardens from 7:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.

    Parade Route / Road Closures

    • The Reviewing Officer is The Governor of WA.
    • The Defence Force contingents step-off at 9:20 a.m. from Langley Reserve followed by the Ex-Services contingents at 9:40 a.m.
    • The ANZAC Day Service will commence at approximately 11:00 a.m. when all Units and Associations are assembled at The Esplanade.
    Transport for Disabled Veterans for the ANZAC Day Parade

    If you can no longer march the distance of the parade on ANZAC Day, there is a very willing group of voluntary drivers who will pick you up from your residence, assemble at The Esplanade, drive you through the parade, provide seating and light refreshments for the during the service, then return you to your home. This way you can still be involved in the parade.
    This service has been provided since 1914 when one car picked up three veterans from Hollywood Hospital and drove them through the parade.
    There is absolutely no charge for this service and the volutneer drivers consider it a privilege to be able to assist in this small way.

    City of Perth Parking in Perth CBD

    All City of Perth Parking open air carparks will be open on ANZAC Day. Fees will not apply at the following carparks between 6am-1pm – Terrace Rd, Point Fraser, Plain St, Queens Gardens, Fire Station and Entertainment Centre. Thereafter standard carpark fees will apply. Standard fees will apply at all other City of Perth Parking carparks at all times.

    ANZAC Day Street Appeal

    The 9th Annual ANZAC Day Street Appeal has been authorised for collection on Wednesday, 23 April 2008.

    Please note that on 23 April collections can be made in public locations, these primarily are:

    • Streets / roads etc;
    • Railways;
    • Bus stops; and
    • Taxi ranks.

    Shopping Centres, pubs, clubs, markets and the like are NOT classed as public places and therefore with approval of management of these premises, collections can occur prior to ANZAC Day.
    The rules and regulations for collecting are the same as for the Poppy Day Appeal.
    Congress 2000 resolved that all proceeds from the ANZAC Day Street Appeal would be divided equally, that is 50/50 between your sub-branch and State Branch (after costs) for the benefit of the health and well-being of current and ex-servicemen and women.
    Sub-Branch members are requested to give the ANZAC Day Appeal the same support given to the Poppy Day Appeal, funds raised pay the maintenance of the provision of services to eligible recipients and for ceremonial and commemorative activities such as ANZAC Day / Remembrance Day and wreath laying services.
