WA Branch State President William E. (Bill) Gaynor OAM RFD has been a member of the League since 1978 and has been actively involved in that time at Sub-Branch, State and National Level of operations. His work with the veteran community covers all aspects of League activities from welfare to ceremonial. In particular he promotes a positive public image of the organisation to ensure that the veteran and ex-service community are suitably recognised for their commitment to preserving the ‘Australian’ way of life.
His military career of some 35 years was as an Army Reservist in Western Australia. He served as a soldier, NCO and finally as an Officer in Service, Arms, Training and headquarters postings. In 1996 he retired with the rank of Major RAAMC.
In civilian employment he was a School Principal and Education Administrator for 44 years before his recent retirement from those positions. As an employee of the Education Department of Western Australia he had the opportunity of serving in many country locations and as such was able to work with several country based Army Reserve Units.
With a long time commitment to Surf Lifesaving he was, in 1999, honoured with the Award of the Order of Australia Medal for outstanding service to that organisation.
